I like rituals. My weekly early morning latte at Intelligentsia is just that; a time when I read my book, work on some writing, or enjoy a little people watching. I get their early enough that there isn’t much of a line and the bar seat inside are mostly free. Sometimes this golden hour fluctuates a bit; sometimes it’s my arrival time that does. Either way, no matter how long the line is, I wait. I’ve never taken my coffee to go, but I have left without once or twice when the sacred bar space was full.
What I Order
A latte or a cappuccino. Occasionally a scone, try the bacon-Gruyère or currant-pistachio.
Reason To Love
The beverage quality and the service are consistently great. The barista’s are friendly and don’t make you feel rushed, no matter how busy it is. I don’t care how long I’ve waited (if you don’t have the time, why go?), eye-contact and a friendly greeting make all the difference. The bar sets are the best in the city, a view of the action behind the bar and the constant stream of locals in for their coffee fix. I’ve met some nice and interesting people sitting there.
